Commissioner secures further £408k for domestic abuse and sexual violence support services

Nine organisations operating across the county will receive grants to enhance their work helping victims of domestic abuse and sexual violence and reduce wait times for the vital support they provide to those who need it.

The money, awarded by the Ministry of Justice, will support work such as outreach, advocacy and counselling, as well as help with increasing number of victims coming forward for support.

Following the announcement, the Commissioner said:

“It’s extremely important that victims of domestic abuse and sexual violence receive the dedicated, expert support they need to help them move forward and break the cycle of abuse that destroys lives.

“As Commissioner I am committed to getting tough on crime, including abuse in all its forms and will work with the Constabulary to ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice and we keep people safe.

“By combining this vital support for victims with early intervention and also crucially a clear message that if you’re committing abuse, officers will be knocking on your door, we can make a real difference and prevent people from becoming victims to these terrible crimes.”

Claire Bennett, CEO of Positive Action in the Community who have been successful in the latest funding bid said:

“This is fantastic news that comes at a great time in helping local and specialist services respond to the increase in demand and complexity that is now presenting itself for victims of domestic and sexual abuse.

“It is critical that funding such as this is available to allow us to meet these needs on an early intervention level as well as in times of crisis and high need. We are very grateful to the Police and Crime Commissioner for keeping domestic abuse high on Lancashire’s agenda’.
