Victim Care Lancashire backs Pride events to support communities and victims

Pride is a celebration of people, bringing communities together, championing inclusivity and reinforcing the message that everyone deserves dignity, respect and equal treatment under the law. These events also play an important role in attracting visitors and supporting local businesses across the county.

Sponsoring the events through VCL, Commissioner Grunshaw ensured that the team was on hand to engage with residents and visitors, offering information, advice and reassurance to those who may need support, including victims within the LGBTQ+ community.

The service, which recently marked its first anniversary, provides free, confidential support to anyone affected by crime in Lancashire. This includes personalised help to ensure victims feel safe, informed and in control, alongside close partnership working with police and other organisations.

Commissioner Grunshaw, who attended all three events and took part in the parades, said:
“Pride events are a chance to show solidarity and stand against hate and intolerance.

“Everyone in Lancashire has the right to be themselves without fear of discrimination, and support is available to anyone affected by hate crime.

“Through my funding of Victim Care Lancashire, victims can access expert support when they need it. I will continue to stand up for all our communities and make clear that there is no place for hate in Lancashire.”

Gemma Smith, Victim Care Lancashire Service Manager, added:

“We are proud to once again support local Pride events this year and to raise awareness of the support available to those affected by hate crime.

“No one should ever be targeted for who they are. Hate crime can have a profound and lasting impact, and it is vital that people know they do not have to face this alone.

“I would encourage anyone affected by any type of crime to access support. The Victim Care Lancashire team is here to listen, provide guidance and reassurance helping you access the support that you deserve.”
