Lancashire shines the spotlight on Neighbourhood Policing

The National Police Chief Council’s ‘Neighbourhood Policing Week of Action’ will take place from 23-30 June and involve forces working together to highlight the work neighbourhood teams do on a daily basis to help keep communities safe.

Throughout the week, Lancashire Police will be promoting the good work being done by Neighbourhood Officers, Police Community Support Officers and Task Force Teams to keep the county safe as well as hosting events designed to bring neighbourhood officers and communities together.

Activities will include initiatives to tackle burglary and anti-social behaviour; visits to schools and community groups, targeted action aimed at reducing drug and traffic offences; and public engagement events.

Clive Grunshaw, Police and Crime Commissioner for Lancashire said: “Neighbourhood policing is the foundation of a safe and confident community. It’s through these local teams that we build trust, tackle the issues that matter most to residents, and prevent crime before it happens.

“Lancashire’s longstanding commitment to this approach means we’re already well-positioned to deliver the national Neighbourhood Policing which ensures every community in Lancashire has a named, contactable officer, with increased visible patrols focused on tackling crime and anti-social behaviour.

“It’s important that we raise awareness of Neighbourhood Policing at a local level including who local officers are and how to contact them. This includes improving accessibility of local Neighbourhood Policing Teams through community engagement events, digital tools like Lancashire Talking, and other platforms that give residents and businesses a voice in shaping local policing.

“I’m proud to support this Week of Action and the officers who work tirelessly to protect our neighbourhoods every day.”

Assistant Chief Constable Stasia Osiowy from Lancashire Police said: “Neighbourhood Policing sits at the heart of what we do as a Constabulary. We have dedicated Neighbourhood Policing teams that sit within each area of our county, soon to be boosted further through the new Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee.

“We take great pride in the relationships that we have built with our communities and partners across the entire county. It is with their support that we can really understand the issues that matter most to people and ensure that Lancashire is a fantastic place to live and visit.

“This Week of Action is a designed to showcase the great work that officers across Lancashire do, day-in day-out, to keep our people and communities safe; much of which often goes unseen.

“That includes crime prevention activity, work to target offenders and bring them to justice and regular Op Centurion and Op Vulture patrols to combat crime as well as other tasks.

“If you see them out and about please do say hello and if you feel we aren’t tackling the issues that matter most to you, then tell us by taking our Lancashire Talking survey.”

Throughout the week of action, updates on neighbourhood policing news and events will be given out on social media, the police website and to anyone signed up the Constabulary’s In the Know Messaging service.
