First look at new Pendle Police Station as opening approaches

Lancashire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Clive Grunshaw and East Divisional Commander Ch Supt Steve Rides welcomed representatives from local authorities, businesses, and other stakeholders to a tour around the new station on Carr Road, Nelson.

They were also told more about how the development, led by construction firm Willmott Dixon and Lancashire Constabulary’s estates team, has invested into the community with jobs, apprenticeships and local supply chain spend.

The new Pendle Station will replace the no longer fit for purpose stations in Nelson and Colne, and include a public front counter, response and neighbourhood policing teams, investigations, CSI and more.

Clive Grunshaw, Police and Crime Commissioner for Lancashire said:

“As the new Pendle Police Station approaches completion and becomes operational, this has been a great opportunity to showcase the new station and enable some of our partners and community representatives to see and hear first-hand the positive impact this will have on policing in the area.

“It’s a major investment into community safety and the future of policing in Lancashire, and over the course of the build has seen us use our spending power to deliver local jobs, apprenticeships and investment, with £11.8m spend kept local, alongside 70% labour.

“I’m looking forward to seeing this modern, fit for purpose police station delivering the policing service people deserve and expect, helping in our commitment to tackling crime, and making our communities safer.”

Gillian Routledge, Chief Operating Officer for Lancashire Constabulary said: “I want to extend my sincere thanks to everyone who has played a part in bringing this project to fruition. A development of this scale requires coordination, commitment and professionalism from countless teams across the organisation, and their hard work is evident in every aspect of the new station.

“This facility represents a significant step forward for Lancashire Police. It has been designed with the future in mind — ensuring our people have the right environment, tools and infrastructure to meet the evolving demands of modern policing. I’m incredibly proud of what has been achieved and confident that this investment will support our officers, staff and the communities we serve for many years to come.”

Ch Supt Steve Rides, Divisional Commander at East Division added: “This is an exceptional new facility, modern, accessible and designed to help us continue to respond efficiently and on time to the public when they need us. I’m confident its location and layout will make a genuine difference to how efficiently we can serve the public across the borough.

“The building brings our neighbourhood policing team and response officers together in one shared space. This will strengthen collaboration and improve the way we share intelligence and ultimately help us deliver the very best service for local residents.

“The station also houses a cutting-edge vulnerable person’s suite, providing a safe, private and reassuring environment for those who need it most. We will be able to interview suspects on site without requiring arrest, supported by state-of-the-art CSI facilities and improved wellbeing spaces for staff.

“With a public enquiry counter and specialist investigation teams based here in Pendle, this station represents a major investment in local policing and in the safety of our residents.”

The new station is set to open to the public in April and will become fully staffed and operational by June 2026.
