Commissioner welcomes landmark Crime and Policing Act

Passed after 14 months in Parliament, the Act strengthens powers for police and the wider criminal justice system to prevent crime and bring offenders to justice across Lancashire.

Key measures include new respect orders to tackle anti-social behaviour, a specific offence for assaulting retail workers, and stronger vehicle seizure powers. The Act also enhances protections for vulnerable people, with new stalking protection orders, offences covering child criminal exploitation and “cuckooing”, and tighter laws on knife sales and possession with intent to cause harm.

Clive Grunshaw, Police and Crime Commissioner for Lancashire said:

“This landmark legislation will make a real difference to community safety. It strengthens policing, delivers tougher justice for victims, and tackles the issues that matter most to residents.

“As Commissioner, I will continue to be a strong voice for Lancashire, both regionally and in Westminster, holding the Chief Constable to account and ensuring our police service has the resources, support and scrutiny it needs to protect the public effectively.

“I look forward to working with partners to ensure these new powers deliver safer streets across Lancashire.”
