Sponsoring the event through newly commissioned service, Victim Care Lancashire, the Commissioner ensured that the team was on hand to share information about support available to victims of crime within the LGBTQ+ community and beyond.
Launched on April 1st, Victim Care Lancashire provide free and confidential support to victims of crime across the county, including victims of hate crime.
Following the event, Commissioner Clive Grunshaw said:
“It is always brilliant to support pride events across the county and, importantly, it gives us the opportunity to stand up against hate and intolerance in our society.
“Everyone in Lancashire should be able to express themselves without fear of prejudice or discrimination.
“I want people to know that Lancashire Police take hate crime extremely seriously and that support for anyone affected is available through Victim Care Lancashire, funded by my Office.
“I will continue to support and stand up for all communities within Lancashire. Our county is no place for hate and by supporting events like this we can send that message loud and clear.”
Gemma Smith, Victim Care Lancashire Service Manager, added:
“We are really proud to support Blackpool Pride for the first time this year to highlight the support we can offer, particularly in relation to hate crime.
“Being targeted because of who you are is completely unacceptable. We know that hate crime can have a profound and lasting impact on those affected and we want people to know that support is available, should they ever need it.
“I would encourage anyone who needs support following any type of crime to get in touch with our team at Victim Care Lancashire, we are here to help.”
