The event, delivered by Morecambe FC Community Foundation Champions, took place as part of Sceptre Week, the National Police Chiefs’ Council’s coordinated effort to tackle knife crime.
Young people attending the event took part in interactive workshops designed to highlight the risks and consequences of carrying a knife. The day also featured contributions from lived-experience speakers, Lancashire Police, NHS representatives and a spoken word artist, providing powerful inputs on the issue.
The LVRN Champions Programme provides targeted, trauma‑informed mentoring for young people aged 10–25 across Lancashire who have committed violence or are at high risk of offending.
Following the event, Commissioner Clive Grunshaw said:
“Knife crime cannot be tackled by policing alone. Events like this are vital in bringing together partners and communities to support young people and prevent harm before it happens.
“Getting tough on serious violent crime is a top priority in my Police and Crime Plan. Weeks of action such as Sceptre Week help shine a light on the vital year-round work taking place across Lancashire to prevent knife crime.
“As Police and Crime Commissioner, I will continue to utilise my Violence Reduction Network to support initiatives that drive knife crime off our streets.”
The LVRN, part of the Office of the Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioner, works under Commissioner Clive Grunshaw to bring together organisations across local communities to tackle the underlying causes that contribute to serious violent crime.
