The Commissioner and the MP discussed how officers are tackling local issues and how policing in the area is addressing concerns raised by residents.
The Commissioner outlined his plans to combat anti-social behaviour in the area with the help of additional foot patrols delivered through Operation Centurion, as well as his plans to rebuild neighbourhood policing to ensure the residents of towns such as Bacup have a strong, visible policing presence.
Operation Centurion is Lancashire Police’s response to tackling anti-social behaviour backed by the Commissioner, as part of a wider focus on reducing anti-social behaviour across the county.
As part of the walkaround the Commissioner and MP also visited The Station, a community led youth hub that has previously received funding from the PCC’s office to provide a space where young people can feel safe and engage positively in the community.
Following the visit, PCC Grunshaw said:
“It was great to join Andy in Bacup to discuss how we can work together to make a difference.
“Though there is always more to be done, it was encouraging to see how local policing and community projects, such as The Station, are working to combat crime and anti-social behaviour and promote positive engagement between young people, the police and the wider community.
“As Lancashire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, I am committed to restoring neighbourhood policing and ensuring residents get a visible policing service in order to build trust and confidence.”
Rossendale and Darwen MP, Andy MacNae, added:
“With police, councillors, community groups and local businesses working together we have seen some real positive progress over the last year. But we do need to keep going and so it was great to hear Clive’s renewed commitment to foot patrols and visible policing.
“I look forward to working with Clive and our local police officers to keep our town centres safe.”
