Commissioner Grunshaw joined Chorley MP Sir Lindsay Hoyle at Jennings Community Boxing Academy in Coppull to hear how funding, provided through the Commissioner’s Community Fund, is supporting work with young people to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour (ASB).
During the visit, the Commissioner and MP saw first-hand how the gym is actively supporting and engaging young people who are no longer in mainstream education.
The funding will enable the gym to expand on its successful youth work in Coppull and extend its support across the Clayton Brook area, helping to reduce anti-social behaviour by offering professionally led boxing sessions, one‑to‑one mentoring, cooking skills, and accredited development opportunities for young people at risk.
Following the visit, Police and Crime Commissioner Clive Grunshaw said:
“I’m really pleased to be able to work with Lancashire MPs to fund community projects such as Jennings Community Boxing. This is exactly the kind of grassroots initiative that makes a genuine difference, giving young people positive outlets, strong role models, and opportunities they may not otherwise have had.
“Investing in projects like this is essential to preventing crime before it begins. The strong, supportive relationships formed between young people and positive male role models are invaluable, helping to guide them towards healthier choices and a brighter future.
“As Police and Crime Commissioner, I remain committed to backing community‑led programmes that tackle anti‑social behaviour and genuinely change lives.”
