Business joins Commissioner in ‘Backing Lancashire’ pledge
13 February, 2020
Lancashire’s Police and Crime Commissioner has reaffirmed his commitment to ‘Backing Lancashire’ and investing into the county, as he met with a local business which is delivering specialist training with the force.
Sancus Solutions deliver a range of training for Lancashire Constabulary and other forces across the country, including specialist training around road policing investigation.
Employing five people locally and also providing opportunities to current and former students from the nearby University of Central Lancashire, Director Mick Turner discussed the work they do with the force.
The Commissioner also outlined the ‘Backing Lancashire’ campaign, which builds on the Commissioner’s pledge, alongside Lancashire Constabulary, to ensure all procurement and commissioning activity maximises social, economic and environmental benefit whilst also delivering value for money.
Figures last year showed that £62m had been invested back into the county through procurement since the social value policy was brought in during 2017.
The Commissioner said:
“It is really important that we invest back into the county and the people that live and work here. Putting Lancashire first wherever possible when it comes to spending on goods and services can have a huge impact and that’s why I work closely with the force to ensure we are ‘Backing Lancashire’ whilst still delivering value for money.
“Creating safe and confident communities is a key priority in my Police and Crime Plan and that’s why my ‘Backing Lancashire’ campaign supports the work that the force does to put money back into the county by always taking into account the social value of any contract.
“From the West Division Headquarters new build through all of our procurement at every value, I’m really pleased that my office and Lancashire Constabulary are playing such a key role, providing opportunities for local people.”
Sancus Director, Mick Turner said “As a former officer with Lancashire Constabulary I am especially proud to have the opportunity to continue to serve the force by helping with specialist training. Our road policing officers provide a vital function in keeping us all safer on our journeys and they deserve the best support available.
“The Commissioner’s investment in local businesses means that we can work closely with the force. I can’t speak highly enough of then initiative to invest in our County.”
